Moleskine is a brand of notebook that has been around for something ridiculous like 200 years. Van Gogh, Picasso, and Hemingway were all fans of this line. That’s quite a history to have behind you. Used by artists, writers, and thinkers Moleskine notebooks are a legend.
Originally produced by a small French bookbinder that supplied Parisian stationary shops, the moleskine was easily accessible to the people who went most frequently looking for paper, pen and ink. Hence the long standing relationship between these little beauties and those inspired to put their ideas on paper.
The definition of a Moleskine is a little black notebook with rounded corners, an elastic to hold it closed, and an inner pocket. The name Moleskine was applied only after Bruce Chatwin, memorialized it as such in his book The Songlines.
In 1986, the original manufacturer closed down and discontinued production of their popular creation and not until 1998 was the little notebook brought back to life under the official name of Moleskine.
Moleskine has been a favorite of mine since college because they give you the ability to put all of your thoughts, schedule, random bits of paper, drawings, etc all in one place. The Moleskine Daily Calendar, while being a little thicker than the average Moleskine, is a convenient way to organize yourself and has ample room for notations, to do lists, and anything else you care to jot. It can also be used as a daily journal.
Moleskine sketchbooks and journals offer the same convenience is a less structured format. Regardless of the style you choose, try a moleskine on for size. You will not be disappointed.
